Port Patrol™ is part of a suite of services offered by Memset® Dedicated Server Hosting, along with the Packet Patrol™ managed firewall and DoS protection service and the Perimeter Patrol™ security scanning and vulnerability assesment service.
About Port Patrol™
Port Patrol™ is Memset's in-house 24/7 proactive server monitoring solution. We currently offer two levels of service; Basic which is included free of charge on all servers and Advanced which is a cost option.
The monitoring is "proactive" since we do not simply send you an email when something fails - we are paged directly and actively investigate and resolve the issue. We pride ourselves on often detecting and fixing a problem before our client or their users ever notice there was one in the first place.
Basic Port Patrol™ monitoring
We will check that your server is accesible from outside the datacentre by pinging it. If the server becomes unavailable for more than 10 minutes we will attempt to reboot the server. Beyond that any assistance we render will be determined by your support level. Basic monitoring is included with all servers and Miniservers.
Advanced Port Patrol™ monitoring
This includes basic ping monitoring, but in addition we will monitor the following:
- Up to 5 services/ports (eg SSH, HTTP, POP3, SMTP, MySQL) on the server
- Load monitoring
- Disk space usage
The service monitoring is 24/7, and our oncall systems administrator(s) will be notified in the event of a failure and will take apropriate action such as restarting the service. Beyond that any assistance would be as per your support level for the server.
Disk space and intrusion detection alerts are handled on a working-hours basis and you (the customer) would be notified as well. Please note that the intrusion detection is not fool-proof and we would always recommend prevention in the form of security patching.
